2. LegbandKai Legband competing in the Canadian National Trials Swim Meet has met the Standard for the Youth Olympic Games.

During the Men’s 100 LC Meter Freestyle Time Trial Legband would touch the wall in a time of 51.94 which saw him finish 2nd.

But it was the Men’s 50 LC Meter Freestyle Preliminaries, where he would make his Qualifying mark, he finished 21st stopping the clock in 23.55, which broke Jesse Washington’s Record time of 23.56 he set back on July 22nd, 2017 during the VI Commonwealth Youth Games.

1. Franklin BrowneBermuda squash pair Micah Franklin and Noah Browne are guaranteed a medal in the Central American and Caribbean Games in Cali, Colombia.

Franklin and Browne will face Mexico in the final four of the men’s doubles today after defeating Trinidad 11-8, 11-4 in the quarter-finals today.

Jamaica will take on Cayman Island in the other semi-final tomorrow.

In the men’s individual singles yesterday Browne lost 6-11, 8-11, 4-11 to Christopher Binnie, of Jamaica, having beaten Franklin in a five-game thriller in the round of 16 on Friday.

bermudaBasketballAssocThe Bermuda Olympic Association (BOA) today announced that the Bermuda Basketball Association (BBA) has received several pieces of new equipment thanks to funding provided through BOA’s partnership program with the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) that makes new equipment available to qualifying national sports federations free of charge.

The BBA has received two Bison T-Rex Portable Basketball Systems, which will be used for outdoor games, two Shoot-A-Way Shooter Basketball Training Systems to help prepare men’s, women’s and youth national teams for international competition, and 60 new FIBA Official basketballs (36 indoor and 24 indoor/outdoor).

Mr. Tommy Johnson, Treasurer of the BBA, said “We would like to thank the BOA and PASO for their support and for the equipment that will enhance our athletes’ training capabilities. With the new equipment, we’ll also be able to give local youth a better introduction to basketball and prepare them better for local and international competition.”

Judy Simons, BOA President said, “The BOA is focused on helping our young athletes from all sports along on their journeys to success. As PASO’s representative in Bermuda, we’re pleased to have been able to help the BBA acquire new equipment to help with the development of our local basketball talent, and we know the equipment will go to very good use.”
