Shelley Pearson was crowned the FISA Americas Olympic Continental Qualification Regatta Women’s One Division Champion after winning the Women’s Final in Curauma, Chile.

Pearson finished first in the Final of the Women’s Single clocking a time of 7:42.0, which was two seconds faster then the second place finisher Fabiana Beltrameabiana from Brazil.

Pearson’s will now await a call from the Bermuda Olympic Association to confirm her spot at the 2016 Olympics.

istatsother160323Shelley Pearson took to the waters to compete on day two of the FISA Americas Olympic Continental Qualification Regatta in Curauma, Chile.

Pearson finished first in Semi-Final A/B 1 of the Women’s Single clocking a time of 7:46.1, which was tied for the fastest qualifying time.

Pearson’s is guaranteed a spot in the final which sees her meet the standard to Qualify for the Olympics.

Pearson speaking to www.islandstats.com following her accomplishment said, “It feels surreal but very exciting!  The Semi-Final was actually a much calmer race compared to yesterday. I had a great start and just continued to push away. There's a lot less pressure on tomorrow and I'm just excited to go out there and see what I can do.”

bildeTyler Butterfield, Flora Duffy and Tyler Smith retained their Athlete of the Year titles as triathlon enjoyed another successful night at the 35th annual Sports Awards at The Fairmont Southampton.

Butterfield was crowned Male Athlete of the Year and Duffy Female Athlete of the Year after outstanding performances overseas in 2015, while a third triathlete, Smith, won his second straight Junior Male Athlete of the Year award. Sailor Cecilia Wollmann won a first Junior Female Athlete of the Year award after an outstanding year on the water.

BeachVolleyballThe Bermuda Volleyball Association will welcome the news that Beach Volleyball will make its debut on the Commonwealth Games programme at Gold Coast 2018, it has been announced.

The historic move will increase the number of sports being contested at the Games from 17 to 18 for the first time, making use of what have been described as some of the best beaches in the world at the Australian venue.
 
An agreement was struck between the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), the Queensland Government, the Australian Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA) and the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) to pave the way for Beach Volleyball’s inclusion.
