Zekiah Lewis placed third in the girls’ long jump with a leap of 17ft 1in at the Yale Track Classic in New Haven, Connecticut, last weekend.
Lewis, 19, was one of four Bermudians on St Johnsbury Academy’s indoor athletics team. Last week she broke the Vermont school’s record in the long jump with a leap of 17ft 4in.
“Zekiah has been a great addition to the team,” coach Chip Langmaid said. “She is a fantastic jumper and is adding sprints to her list of events.”
Lewis and her team-mates nearly broke the state record in the 4×200 metres relay event with their time of 1:48.86.
Lewis, who competed in the Carifta Games in Curaçao last year, was part of the Bermuda under-17 football team at the Concacaf Caribbean qualifiers in Haiti in October.
