Two of Bermuda’s top cyclists, Conor White and Kaden Hopkins, have received official medal upgrades from the 2023 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games held in San Salvador, El Salvador, following a doping violation by another participant.

White, who had originally been awarded the bronze medal in the men’s individual time trial, will now receive the silver medal. Hopkins, who placed just outside the podium in the men’s road race, has been elevated to the bronze medal position.

The upgraded medals were presented during a special ceremony held in Hamilton with representatives from the Bermuda Olympic Association (BOA), the Bermuda Bicycle Association (BBA), and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.

Medal Upgrade Ceremony

Peter Dunne, President of the Bermuda Olympic Association remarked, “On behalf of the Bermuda Olympic Association, I’m delighted to be here today with Minister Darrell for the presentation of medals from the 2023 CAC Games in San Salvador, El Salvador to Conor White and Kaden Hopkins. These reassigned medals are the result of a doping violation on the part of another Games participant. As a result, Conor is receiving the silver medal for the men’s individual time trial and Kaden is awarded the bronze medal in the men’s road race.

While the prolonged delay of this presentation has been somewhat frustrating for these athletes, it in no way diminishes their performances in 2023. We appreciate their patience with the investigation and adjudication process, and extend the congratulations of all our members and board on their accomplishments.”

The Hon. Owen Darrell, JP, MP, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, joined in celebrating the athletes’ achievements, “On behalf of the Government and people of Bermuda, I extend heartfelt congratulations to Conor White and Kaden Hopkins on this well-deserved recognition of their outstanding performances at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games. Their dedication and pursuit of excellence continue to make Bermuda proud on the international stage. It is an honour to celebrate their achievements and to acknowledge the hard work and commitment that have brought them to this moment.”

The CAC Games, a multi-sport event recognized by the International Olympic Committee, represent one of the most competitive stages for athletes in the Caribbean and Central American region. Both White and Hopkins have been consistent fixtures on Bermuda’s national cycling team and continue to represent the island in international competitions.

This recognition reinforces Bermuda’s commitment to clean sport and fair play, while celebrating the perseverance and integrity of its athletes.
